And Here For 'Managing Abandonment Issues Through Recovery'
I had mixed reactions to the popular recently released Christian movie about a young couple struggling with a marital crisis. Kirk Cameron did an amazing job of depicting the transformation of an arrogant, selfish, raging husband into a sensitive, kind, humble, broken fellow who won back the heart of his wife. I loved that the movie was about a marriage and not much else : no bank robberies or superheroes, just a marriage. In my writings when I discuss a workable, teachable, humble, non-defensive heart I am talking about a guy like Cameron's character.
To be honest I spent much of the movie in tears. It was powerful. I recommend it highly with one concern. The movie seemed to insinuate that if you hang close to Jesus then all of your marital issues would be resolved and you would live happily ever after. Research and experience indicate otherwise. Christians have the same divorce rate as the unchurched. The thing that saved the marriage in the movie was not only the powerful of God but it was an especially open, broken, motivated heart. My prayer is that everyone who sees the movie walks away with a measure of that kind of workable spirit.
