And Here For 'Managing Abandonment Issues Through Recovery'
My group members laugh when I sincerely tell them that going to therapy should actually feel like going to a spa - it is a nurturing act of self-care. It is taking time and money and focus purely for the self to heal and learn and grow. It is sacred. I know that nobody likes to feel sad or cry or be depressed. But the sense of self-connection that can ultimately result from that is truly priceless! Your pain is trying to tell you something. Pain is a good thing while you are cooking and you instantly pull your hand away from the flames. Your pain is trying to protect you and teach you. Pay attention to your sadness. Embrace it! Feel it. Talk about it with your significant other. Bring it into your therapy sessions. Kick it around. See what else comes up for you. You will feel less pain in the long run if you have the strength and courage to face off with your pain. It will protect you from an addiction getting completely out of control. It can protect you from having to get a divorce. It is a gift. Spend some time in the spa of self awareness and deep feeling soon.
